> ## Agent Instructions
> Spreader is a web service that tracks arbitrage spreads between crypto exchanges. This documentation covers only what a user of the service sees and does.

# Scanner

> The scanner is a live table of spreads between two markets of the same asset across exchanges, filtered, sorted and saved per page.

The scanner is the home screen. Each row is a **direction**: buy the asset on one market (the long leg) and sell or short it on another (the short leg). Rows update as quotes arrive, and the table is sorted by the net spread by default.

Top bar: view switch on the left, save state and actions on the right.

* **View switch**: Table, Coins, Split or Matrix. See [Views](https://docs.spreader.sh/en/scanner/views.md).
* **Save state**: `All saved` or `Unsaved changes`. Filters, columns, sort and view are saved per page with **Save**. See [Scanner pages](https://docs.spreader.sh/en/scanner/pages.md).
* **Alert** creates an alert rule from the current filters or follows this page.

Toolbar: filters, pair kinds, row counter, Live toggle and Columns.

* **Filters** opens the filter panel. The number next to it is how many filters are active. See [Filters](https://docs.spreader.sh/en/scanner/filters.md).
* **Pair kinds** limit the table to one kind of direction. See [Pair kinds](https://docs.spreader.sh/en/scanner/filters.md#pair-kinds).
* **Counter** shows how many rows pass the filters out of all live directions.
* **Live** pauses and resumes updates. While paused, the counter shows how many updates are waiting.
* **Columns** chooses columns and row height. See [Columns](https://docs.spreader.sh/en/scanner/reading-a-row.md#columns).

## What a row means

A row is one direction of one pair. The same two markets can appear twice, once in each direction, when both markets can be shorted. Spot cannot be shorted, so a spot leg is always the long leg, unless the exchange lets you borrow the coin on margin, which is the `spot-margin` and `perp-margin` kind.

See [Reading a row](https://docs.spreader.sh/en/scanner/reading-a-row.md) for every column.

## Clicking a row

The whole row is a link. Click it to open the spread page of that direction: both legs, order books, funding, history and trading. Hover a row to see two quick actions on the left: add the pair to **Favorites** or **hide** it on this page.

## When data stops

If exchanges stop answering, a banner says **No fresh quotes** with the time it happened. Rows are kept and marked stale. This is a data outage, not your filters, and the table comes back as soon as quotes do. If your own connection drops, the banner says **Live stream lost** and the page reconnects by itself. **Reconnect now** forces an attempt.
